One week in Namibia barely scratches the surface. ArcticTropic was there in October, 2013 for the Adventure Travel Trade Association annual conferences in the capital city of Windhoek and the small seaside city of Swakopmund. At least weeks is needed to see the country properly.
On a hot spring afternoon in Namib Naukluft Park, ArcticTropic and fellow adventurer travel companies embarked on a horse safari covering many kilometers in the desert. THe trip was organized by Chameleon Holidays Travel in conjunction with the ATTA Summit. An edited version of this adventure is soon to follow – this is raw footage.

On Monday morning,October 28th, we departed the desert cam for the coast. The first stop was a cheetah reserve. We were able to get up close to the slumbering cats as the sun was too high for them to chase small prey at 110 kph.

This tree grows where rain is scarce because the roots are up to 40 feet deep , getting miniscule amounts of groundwater to stay alive.

ArcticTropic arrived in Namibia on Saturday, but only now has adequate ( but still very slow ) bandwidth to upload photos. We also have excellent video , which will be impossible to upload until at least South Africa at the end of this week.

While officially half in the tropics, Namibia’s climate is extreme. We went from baking sun in the desert to cold fog on the coast.This past August much of the country was buried in heavy snow.
In Windhoek, local Himba tribeswomen sell handicrafts in the marketplace.

The German cites of Swapkomund and Windhoek seem out of place in the stark deserts and freezing coasts of Namibia. Namibia is unlimited adventure –safari, mountain climbing, desert treks, four wheeling, surfing and even exploring for diamonds on the Skeleton Coast.
